Book - Vintage Fashion

The tag line is 'collecting and wearing designer classics'. I am never going to be able to afford to wear any designer fashion (unless I get lucky in the charity shops) but I do love vintage fashion and have several pieces that I wear regularly (not designer!) So when I spotted the book above in my Post Office for £1 I knew I had to have it! I'm going to show you some of my favourites below - some I admire because they are just beautiful and some it's the fabric that I like!

An Edwardian dress (1905) by a designer from Austria

Silk white and navy dress from the 1920's

A blouse from the mid 1930's

Harlequin wool felt coat from 1939

cactus green gown from 1941

Mexican 1950's circle skirt

Full skirts on dresses from the 1950's

Late 1960's Ossie Clark design with the print by Celia Birtwell.

Two more Ossie Clark/Celia Birtwell collaborations, this time from the 1970's.

Christian Dior drape dress from the mid 1970s

mid 1980's mini crin dress by Viviennne Westwood.

So a quick peek through the book - I could have shown you many, many more photographs but though that 13 was quite enough!

Shoes!

I have always been a huge fan of Swedish clog makers Hasbeens yet I could never justify £125 on a single pair of shoes. I also missed out when they did a collaboration with H&M here in the UK. However I popped into Clarks the other day and found these beauties. OK, they aren't in the delicious colours of their Swedish counterparts but I do love them* all the same!

And the best bit other than they match the Ikea Trofast system too which we use as a coffee table in our front room? They were meant to be £54 but they were reduced to £14.65 in the sale! Bargain :)

*I wore them up to school in the afternoon to pick the girls up and as soon as Anya saw them she said 'weird shoes!' Neither girl likes them but I don't care cos I do!

My sewing pile

I had some sewing to do the other night but it was mending sewing rather than shop sewing.

The cream dress is one of Anya's and need the straps shortening as it is too low at the front. The dress and the tunic in the middle are Tara's and need buttons sewing on - they are there but are just coming off slightly and I don't want her to lose them.

The top item is my jumpsuit and it needs the legs on it shortening as they are too long. It's fabulous and when I wear it I will definitely show you what it looks like.

Fab pattern!

Teacher presents

First up - the photo's are horrid but they were taken at 7pm in a dark kitchen when it was chucking it down outside! You'll get the general idea anyway!

This year for the presents for the girls teachers we* made a nice little selection of jam, lemon curd and chutney. The girls had a hand in the process from start to finish including picking the raspberries, squeezing the lemons, weighing and measuring, helping Daddy to stir the finished products to decorating the bags.

There are 3 products (raspberry jam, lemon curd and mango & apricot chutney) and each teacher gets two 'tester' pots of each one.

The girls decorated some takeaway bags (they are very useful) and here are a selection of those bags!

And Tara wrote a very cute message to her teacher.

Just in case you can't decipher 5 year olds handwriting it says 'To Mrs Flynn, Have a nice time eating these things. From Tara' Cute or what?

*and I mean Matt - he did all the hard work and I took the photographs :)

Are the names of some new chickens :) Flora and Fleur are Nana chickens and are non identical twin sisters.

And Laura is the first of what I hope will be many Liberty fabric chickens. Isn't she fabulous?

And as ever the girls are available in my Etsy and Folksy shops.

Wreck this Journal

I love my Wreck This Journal! It's such fun but scary at times too like when I had to crack the spine (I never, never, never crack spines on books) The girls have also been enthralled by what I have to do and stood watching when I threw it into the shower (briefly) and encouraged me to leave it a bit longer! Want to see?

Bent front page - it's even ripped in one place too.

I had to tear a page out and crumple it up. Rather than throwing it away though I stuck it into the book. And gave it a smiley face!

Crumpled from the shower

Lots of office supplies already but I still need to sort out the stapler!

The side view - it stays like this and won't close now :)

P.S. My friends little boy is out of hospital (thank goodness) and is recovering at home but it will be months before he is fully better. To top of this past couple of weeks, Anya now has an ear infection! Typical!

{This Moment} It's not even our cat!

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

More over at Soule Mama.
